📝INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup semolina (sooji/rava)
- 2 cups water
- 1 onion (finely chopped)
- 2 green chilies (slit)
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp urad dal
- 1 tsp chana dal
- Curry leaves and coriander (few)
- 2 tbsp oil or ghee
- Salt to taste
👩🍳Recipe
- Step 1: Roast Sooji
- - Dry roast the rava in a pan on medium heat until aromatic. Keep aside.
- Step 2: Tempering
- - Heat oil/ghee, add mustard seeds, let them splutter. Add urad dal, chana dal, and fry till golden.
- Step 3: Sauté
- - Add chopped onions, green chilies, curry leaves and sauté until onions turn translucent.
- Step 4: Add Water
- - Pour in water, add salt. Bring it to a boil.
- Step 5: Add Rava
- - Slowly add roasted rava, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Cook until water is absorbed and upma is soft.
- Step 6: Garnish
- - Add chopped coriander leaves and a few drops of ghee if desired. Mix well and turn off flame.
Tomato Chutney
- Ingredients:
- - 2 ripe tomatoes, 2 dried red chilies, 1 garlic clove, salt, tamarind (small piece)
- Step 1
- - Heat 1 tsp oil, fry red chilies and garlic for a few seconds.
- Step 2
- - Add chopped tomatoes and tamarind, cook till tomatoes turn mushy.
- Step 3
- - Cool and blend to a smooth paste with salt. Optionally temper with mustard, curry leaves and urad dal.
- Serving Tip
- - Serve upma hot with the chutney on the side. A sip of filter coffee takes this to divine level ☕️🔥
