For Puttu:
- 1 cup rice flour (roasted)
- ½ cup grated coconut
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed to moisten
For Kadala Curry:
- 1 cup black chickpeas (kadala), soaked overnight
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- ½ tsp mustard seeds
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 2 tsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp fennel seeds (optional)
👩‍🍳Recipe
- Step 1: Prepare the Puttu
- -Mix rice flour with salt. Sprinkle water and mix till moist, crumbly texture is achieved.
- -Layer a puttu maker with grated coconut and rice flour alternately.
- -Steam for 7–10 minutes until soft and cooked through.
- Step 2: Cook the Kadala
- -Pressure cook soaked chickpeas with water and salt for 4–5 whistles until soft.
- Step 3: Make the Curry
- -In coconut oil, splutter mustard seeds and add fennel seeds (optional).
- -Add onions, curry leaves, and sauté till golden. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook well.
- -Add tomatoes and cook till soft. Mix in turmeric, red chili, coriander powder, and salt.
- -Add boiled chickpeas with water. Simmer for 10 minutes till flavors combine.
- -Sprinkle garam masala and simmer for 2 more minutes.
- Step 4: Serve Hot
- -Serve steamed Puttu hot with spicy Kadala Curry. Best enjoyed with a dollop of ghee!
