Recipe

Step 1: Preheat & Prepare
- Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and line your cake pans with parchment paper.
Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients
- In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
Step 3: Cream Butter & Sugar
- Beat together butter and sugar until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
Step 4: Add Dry Ingredients & Milk
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk.
- Mix until smooth and combined.
Step 5: Bake the Cakes
- Divide the batter evenly between your prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool completely before frosting.
Step 6: Apply Crumb Coat
- Once the cakes are cooled, apply a thin layer of buttercream frosting to seal in the crumbs.
- Chill the cake in the fridge for 30 minutes to set the crumb coat.
Step 7: Apply Fondant
- Roll out your fondant and cover the cake to create a smooth surface. Trim any excess fondant and smooth out the edges.
Step 8: Create Geode Effect
- Use a sharp knife to carve out a section of the cake to resemble a geode shape.
- Make it deep enough to place your geode crystals.
Step 9: Add Sugar Crystals
- Fill the geode cavity with rock candy or sugar crystals in various colors to mimic the geode's natural look.
- You can use clear, blue, purple, or pink candy to create an authentic effect.
Step 10: Enhance with Luster Dust
- Dust the edges of the geode with edible luster dust in various shades such as purple, blue, or gold to create a shimmering effect.
- If desired, sprinkle edible glitter or use gold or silver leaf for additional sparkle.
Step 11: Assemble the Cake
- Stack the tiers of cake on a sturdy cake stand, ensuring each layer is supported with dowels or cake supports to prevent collapse.
Step 12: Serve & Enjoy
- Once the cake is fully assembled, slice and serve. This geode cake will surely be a showstopper at any event!
