📝 Ingredients
- 1 cup rice
- ½ cup toor dal (pigeon peas)
- 1 tbsp tamarind paste
- 2 tbsp Bisi Bele Bath powder (homemade or store-bought)
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 carrot, diced
- ½ cup beans, chopped
- ¼ cup green peas
- 2 tbsp grated coconut (optional)
- 2 tbsp ghee + 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp urad dal
- 1 tsp chana dal
- 2 dry red chilies
- 10–12 curry leaves
- 1 pinch hing (asafoetida)
- Salt to taste
- Cashews for garnish (optional)
👩🍳Recipe
- Step 1: Cook the Dal & Rice
- -Wash and pressure cook the toor dal with turmeric until soft.
- - Separately, cook the rice and keep aside.
- Step 2: Prepare the Vegetables
- -In a pan, boil the chopped carrots, beans, peas, and tomato until soft.
- - Add tamarind paste and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- Step 3: Mix Dal, Rice & Veggies
- -Mix the cooked dal and rice with the vegetables. Add 1–2 cups of water to adjust consistency.
- Step 4: Add Bisi Bele Bath Powder
- -Add the Bisi Bele Bath powder and salt. Mix well and let everything simmer for 10 minutes.
- - occasionally to prevent burning.
- Step 5: Tempering
- -In a separate tadka pan, heat ghee + oil.
- - Add mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, dry red chilies, curry leaves, hing, and cashews.
- - until golden and aromatic. Pour over the Bisi Bele Bath.
- Step 6: Final Touch
- -Mix well. Add a little ghee on top before serving for extra flavor.
- - Optionally, top with fresh grated coconut.
